PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanically operated parking area which allows quick storage/retrieval of vehicles, to thereby enhance the parking efficiency thereof. SOLUTION: According to the mechanically operated parking area, a plurality of lower parking cages 61, 62, 63 are serially arranged in longitudinal and lateral directions on a floor slab 2, and ceiling members 61A, 62A, 63A of the respective cages form a vehicle traveling passage A. Then, the lower parking cages 61, 62, 63 are independently ascended/descended by a first lift driving mechanism 7, and the vehicles are loaded/unloaded in/from the lower parking cages 61, 62, 63, respectively, by using the vehicle passage A. Further, a plurality of upper parking cages 81, 82, 83 are hoisted from a second lift driving mechanism 9 in a manner being independently laid on the vehicle traveling passage A, and the vehicles can be loaded/unloaded in/from the upper parking cages 81, 82, 83, by using the vehicle traveling passage A.
