PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide earth retaining equipment, and an open-cut construction method using this equipment requiring no partitioning of a working face part by a steel sheet pile, allowing execution work by the open-cut construction method while retaining earth of a working face, dispensing with large-scale equipment such as an open shield machine, and facilitating execution work even in a narrow and work occupying part limited place. SOLUTION: Side part earth retainment is executed by driving a side part earth retaining plate. After retaining earth of the front by a front earth retaining plate 13 arranged in a front part of an earth retaining chamber 11, the front of the earth retaining chamber 11 is excavated by an excavator mounted on an upper part or an upper rear part of the earth retaining chamber 11, and earth is removed. Afterwards, a jack 14 arranged in the earth retaining chamber 11 is extended. The earth retaining chamber 11 is advanced into a concrete box body 4 buried in the rear by taking reaction. A new concrete box body 4 is laid in the rear of the earth retaining chamber 4. Next, an upper part and a side part of the laid concrete boxy body 4 is backfilled. The front of the earth retaining chamber 11 is excavated while moving the front earth retaining plate 13 forward by repeating the process.
