SLIDING BODY AND MECHANICAL SEAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding body which can greatly increase lubricity while holding intrinsic characteristic of silicon carbide. SOLUTION: The sliding body is constituted of a complex silicon carbide sintered compact in which globular carbon is arranged in a scattered point shape in dense silicon carbide organization. The globular carbon receives uniform or almost uniform compressing force from a silicon carbide organization part surrounding the globular carbon in a boundary region between the silicon carbide organization and itself. The globular carbon has 5 to 100 μm diameter and content ratio of the globular carbon to the silicon carbide is 2 to 30 wt.%.
