PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve cooling effect by reducing ranges where stay of cooling water due to deflecting ribs is generated in a cooling water jacket for an internal combustion engine having the deflecting ribs to direct cooling water to an exhaust valve port side port wall part with a high heat load. SOLUTION: In the cooling water jacket 12 formed in a cylinder head 2, the deflecting ribs to direct water currents toward the exhaust valve port side port wall part 48a are provided to be protruded upward from a bottom wall 45. The deflecting ribs 53 and 54 to deflect part of the water currents toward the exhaust valve port side port wall part 48a are extended from an intake valve port side port wall part 47a to form a gap 55 between the exhaust valve port side port wall part 48a and the deflecting ribs 53 and 54 for cooling water to flow along a wall surface of the exhaust valve port side port wall part 48a. At a part where the gap 55 is formed, therefore, stay of cooling water on the wall surface of the exhaust valve port side port wall part 48a is not generated.
