PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stable technique without using a complicated apparatus with which troubles in passing through a plate such as meandering or contraction, are not occurred in heat treatments with various kinds of products, small lot production and in widening of the width, in a heat treatment furnace in which a metallic strip is continuously passed. SOLUTION: In the vertical heat treatment furnace continuously performing the heat treatment while carrying the metallic strip with a plurality of tapered rolls arranged in the furnace, this heat treatment furnace for metallic strip, has the peculiarity in which in a part or the whole of the heat treatment furnace, the length of a flat part in the tapered roll set at the upper part, is longer than the length of the flat part in the tapered roll set at the lower part.
