PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bactericidal composition with a new formulation, having strong bactericidal and antibacterial effects on industrial materials of a wide variety, even though a small amount thereof is added. SOLUTION: This bactericidal composition contains one or more isothiazolone compounds of the formula (I) (X and Y are identical to or different from each other and each a halogen or H, or X and Y form together a ring structure; and R<1> is H or a 1-8C alkyl) and one or more cresol compounds of the formula (II) (Z is a halogen; R<2> is H or a 1-3C alkyl; and R<3> is H or an alkali metal) in a weight ratio of 0.5:10 to 10:0.5.
