PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image compression data processing unit and an image display method that can allow even an information device with a restricted memory capacity unable to display an entire original image to easily grasp to which partial area of the original image a displayed partial image corresponds. SOLUTION: Since the designation of a partial area to be displayed identifies a position relation between the partial image and an original image, the position relation between a thumbnail picture and the partial image can be obtained on the basis of the position relation and a reduction algorithm used to generate the thumbnail picture, then the position of the displayed partial image shared in the original image is obtained, a mark is displayed on the thumbnail picture on the basis of the position information and display data of a point or frame mark or the like thereby displaying the position relation between the displayed partial image and the original image in the image compression data processing unit and the image display method.
