A positive displacement single expansion steam expander engine (10). Cylinder heads (30) are fixed to the wall (12) of the engine. A rotatable power shaft assembly (16) has a plurality of nests (162). Received in each of the nests is a free-floating piston (164) (nonengaged) having lobes (166) which allows free movement of the pistons in the nests.
