A fiber recoating process and a recoated optical fiber formed by the process that comprises the steps of providing an optical fiber having a coating and cutting a first cut boundary spaced from a secondary cut boundary to mark an internal section of the coating that has opposing sides. Removal of the coating from the opposing sides produces pared intervening layers between a first wedgw-shaped transition region (102) and a second wedge-shaped transition region (104). Solvent treatment of the pared intervening layer causes displacement of the coating from the optical fiber to provide a stripped optical fiber (126). Application of recoating material (142) to the stripped optical fiber yields the recoated optical fiber (140).
|
