DIAGNOSTIC METHOD FOR OSTEOPOROSIS AND RELATED DISORDERS

Provided are methods and materials for determining the susceptibility of an individual to a disorder which is associated with an abnormal (e.g. low) level of bone mineral density (BMD), the method comprising use of a Fos related antigen-1 gene (Fra-1) marker. The methods may be used e.g. for diagnosis of osteoporosis. Preferred Fra-1 markers include single nucleotide polymorphisms at positions 933, 1301, 4755, 1948, and 2394 of the Fra-1 gene.
