FIELD: organic chemistry, pharmacy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to derivatives of polyhydroxyalkylpyrazines of the formula (I) used as active component in drug where either R1 means chain -CH(Ra)-CHOH-CHOH-CH2OH and R2 means chain -CH2CHOH-CHOH-CH2OH or R1 means chain CH2-CHOH-CHOH-CH2OH and R2 means chain -CH2-CHOH-CHOH-CH2OH; either R1 and R2 are similar and each means chain -(CHOH)n-CH2OH where n = 1, 2, 3 or 4; RA means alkoxyl radical with 1-6 carbon atoms as direct or branched chain with exception for compounds of formulas (II) and (III) . Invention describes also method of synthesis of compounds of the formula (I). Compounds show hypoglycemic activity and can be used in therapy for prophylaxis and treatment of diabetes mellitus.
