PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an plate material sucking mechanism which is used in a cylinder outer surface scanning type image recording apparatus and can strongly suck/fix plate materials of various sizes to the circumferential surface of a drum by the same suction force as the conventional one. SOLUTION: On the circumferential surface 1a of the drum in an area 21 (excluding area 22) onto which the plate material 2 of the maximum size is wound, in comparison with the inside of the area 22 into which the plate material 2 of the minimum size is wound, suction holes 23 having a smaller diameter are formed on a lower density as a result, when the plate material 2 of a smaller size than the maximum one is used, although air enters drum 11 from the suction holes 23 (leakage holes) which are not covered with the plate material 2, since the number of the leakage holes is reduced as compared with a conventional number, and the diameter of the leakage holes is reduced as compared with the conventional diameter, the amount of air to be introduced is louvered eminently.
