In the present invention, there is disclosed a pyridinium compound and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof useful for the management of diabetes and aging-related vascular complications, including kidney disease, nerve damage, atherosclerosis, retinopathy, dermatological disorders and discoloration of teeth. The invention also discloses a method for the preparation of this pyridinium compound, said method comprising preparation of a substituted pyridine selected according to a final product being required and quarternizing thereof with a corresponding reaction agent to the pyridinium compound. There is also described a pharmaceutical composition comprising the pyridinium compound of the present invention, as well as process for its preparation and use.
