PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet imaging apparatus which self diagnoses whether or not a corrected value is accurate after displacement of a head set to a carriage is detected. SOLUTION: A predetermined pattern is printed by a plurality of heads 103 and, an amount of the displacement of the other head with respect to a reference head is detected at a pattern-detecting part 105 and a pattern width- detecting part 106 from the pattern read by a sensor 110. An adjustment value is determined by a registration adjustment amount-detecting part 107 correspondingly to the detected amount of the displacement. A printing position of the head is corrected accordingly. A CPU 108 controls each of the above parts to execute the operation of detecting the displacement amount and correcting the position and also diagnoses the execution result. The self diagnosis is carried out by performing a second operation of printing the predetermined pattern and detection of the displacement amount in a state with the printing position corrected by the displacement amount detected by the first operation of detecting the displacement amount, and by judging whether or not an amount of the displacement obtained by the second displacement amount detection operation is not larger than a preliminarily set size. |
