PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abrasion resistant member and a method of manufacturing it which is especially excellent in a sliding property, as well as high in strength, and high in toughness property. SOLUTION: The abrasion resistant member 2 is characterized in that it is made up of a silicon nitride sintered compact which contains rare earth element of 1-10 mass%, as a sintering assistant, in terms of an oxide, and the total oxygen of which is <=6 mass%, porosity of which is <=0.5%, the largest pore diameter in grain boundary phase of which is <=0.3 μm. |
