PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spiral coil and a bookbinding tool which are of a simple structure and show high portability and achieve easy bookbinding steps, and a book binding method. SOLUTION: The spiral coil 2 is introduced into a plurality of holes 22 perforated at a specified interval in sheets 20 and the sheets 20 are bound into a single body. The spiral coil 2 has a pitch P2, of intervals between the adjacent ring parts, which is different from that of intervals L1 between the holes 22 of the sheets 20. The spiral coil 2 may be of a tight winding type or has a different pitch from the sheets 20. In order to insert the spiral coil 2 into the holes 22 of the sheets 20, a coil insertion guide 10 is prepared, which has the same pitch P3 of intervals as that of a row of the holes 22, with an engagement formed at the end part for engaging with the helical coil 2. The coil insertion guide 10 is run through the holes 22 followed by the spiral coil 2 and thus the sheets 20 are integrally bound. The spiral coil 2 after its elastic deformation is retained at a pitch P2' after the deformation.
