PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device and a manufacturing method for the same, which are capable of greatly reducing exhaust gas that may possibly be remain in a hermetic sealed container when sealing the glass-made exhaust tube. SOLUTION: This image display device comprises a hermetic sealed container 601 for maintaining its inside pressure lower than the atmosphere pressure, and phosphors 107 formed in the container 601, and a surface conductive electron-emitting element which is a light emitting mechanism for making the phosphors 107 emit light, and a tube-like exhaust pipe with a sealed portion 501 which is sealed against the atmosphere pressure to maintain the pressure in the container 601 lower than the atmosphere pressure. Here the tube-like exhaust pipe is composed of the sealed portion 501 made of a plated metal with a thickness different from other portions.
