PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, for notifying the status in a communication system, for which a client can arbitrarily designate the level of disclosing the status of connection to a communication network. SOLUTION: From a first client, among a plurality of clients (103a, 103b, 104a, 104b), the designation of another client to whom the connection status of the first client is to be notified is transmitted. In a server (115), the received designation is stored in a storage device, and from a second client, among a plurality of the clients (103a, 103b, 104a, 104b), a request for the notification of the connection status of the first client is transmitted. The server (115), in response to the transmitted request, determines whether or not the second client is the target of the designation by the first client, and notifies the connection status of the first client, depending on the determination.
