PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coloring method having high productivity and making good use of characteristics of an ink jet system while keeping number of ink jet heads and multipaths to the absolute minimum. SOLUTION: The device for ink jet coloring, which carries out coloring by discharging ink at a body to be colored from the ink jet head while subjecting the ink jet head 102 with a plurality of ink discharge openings and the body 101 to be colored to relative scanning, is provided with a detection sensor 103 to detect a part of the body 101 where the ink is not normally discharged by detecting light from parts of the body 101 after coloring, a complementary data generating part to generate complementary data to supplement the part where the ink is not normally discharged based on information detected with the detection sensor and a control part to control the body 101 so as to be recolored based on the complementary data.
