PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a friction member by which rust is not generated on a back plate of a friction member, and sludge or gelatification is not caused, in the surface treatment by a blast method to the back plate of the friction member and degreasing treatment therefor. SOLUTION: The back plate of a friction member is subjected to the surface degreasing treatment with an alkali aqueous solution and blast working treatment for roughening the surface. In this case, at least one kind of phosphate or carbonate is used as an alkali aqueous solution.
