PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high sensitivity silver halide emulsion having an increased sensitivity to graininess ratio and causing a small change in photographic performance under pressure. SOLUTION: In the silver halide emulsion, the coefficient of variation in equivalent circular diameter of all grains is <=40% and >=70% of the total projected area is occupied by silver halide grains which satisfy the following requirements (i)-(iii); (i) silver iodobromide or silver iodochlorobromide flat platy grains having (111) planes as principal surfaces, (ii) <=0.1μm grain thickness and (iii) when the mean value of the iodine contents of the principal surfaces in the separate grains is represented by Is and the mean value of the iodine contents of the whole grains by Io, the relations of Io<30 mol% and 0.7Io<Is<1.3Io are satisfied.
