The energy conversion method involves carrying out electrolysis of water to obtain hydrogen and oxygen at a first level, moving the hydrogen to a second higher level, carrying out a chemical reaction with the oxygen in the air at the second level, returning the water from the reaction to a level below the first level and using the stored energy released by changing the water level.
