<p>A process for the preparation of benzyl alcohols represented by the general formula (I): (I) (wherein R1 is fluorinated and/or chlorinated alkyl), characterized by reacting an aryl chloride represented by the general formula (II): (II) with magnesium in the presence of a lower haloalkane to prepare a Grignard reagent represented by the general formula (III): (III) and then reacting this Grignard reagent with formaldehyde and/or a polymer thereof.</p> |
