An automotive liquid-fuelled heating system has primary and secondary heating zones with a primary (10) burning zone which on demand surrenders heat to a secondary (12) burner zone, and thence to a heat exchanger. The secondary burner zone (14) has an end-wall face which incorporates a baffle rim (26c) slowing the discharge of heat.
