The connector has a socket sleeve (4) incorporated in the housing (2) of the communications peripheral, receiving contacts provided by the free ends of contact springs (5) attached at their opposite ends to contact pads of a circuit board (3) for electronic components of the communications peripheral. The first end of each contact spring is curved to project into the socket sleeve and is acted on by the inserted connector plug (1) to press its opposite end against the contact pad.
