1,164,773. Liquefied gas storage containers. LINDE A.G. 17 June, 1968 [16 June, 1967], No. 28701/68. Heading F4P. A heat insulated cold liquefied gas storage container 2, 3, Fig. 1, has thermometers 6 located at at least two different depths within the liquid space and means responsive to a predetermined temperature rise shown by the lower thermometer over the one at a higher level for reducing the temperature of the liquid adjacent the container bottom. The temperature rise near the bottom of the container is due to unavoidable heat penetration through the insulation 4 which causes a fall in density and "layering" of the liquid which rises to the top and rapidly evaporates at the lower hydrostatic pressure at said top. Said means comprises a pump 10 which automatically withdraws the warm bottom liquid through a line 11 and delivers it through a line 12 to the container top. In a modification the reduction of temperature of the bottom liquid is effected by convection up an open-ended tube 8, Fig. 2, surrounded by an outer tube 7 sealed thereto and housing an electric heater 9. |
