PURPOSE: A device for adjusting a height of a chair or desk is provided to allow a user to freely adjust the height of the chair or desk according to the user's body size so as to keep an optimum sitting posture. CONSTITUTION: The height adjustment device(30) of a chair or desk, the chair or desk comprising an upper pole(10) inserted in a lower pole, is formed at the upper end of the lower pole to be fitted into height adjustment holes(11) formed at regular distances on the upper pole. The height adjustment device is coupled with an adjustment lever(50) by using a hinge(53), and the adjustment lever has a projection(51) to be fastened selectively into a groove(41) of a bracket(40). The upper end of the adjustment lever is coupled with the rear end of an operating body(60), which is elastically coupled by a spring(62) and formed with a coupling part(61) that the tip end is fastened to the height adjustment hole. During the operation of the adjustment lever, the coupling part of the operating body is moved forward and backward so as to be selectively fastened or separated with the height adjustment hole.
