In a telescopic pocket or handbag umbrella, the retainer for locking the main slider in its position adjacent to the handle consists of a catch 2b normally projecting through a slot 1a in the stick 1, and a springy member 2 having an achoring portion 2a which is a close fit in the end of the stick or in a bore in the inner end of a handle-securing plug, the anchoring portion 2a which is a close fit in the end of the stick or in a bore in the inner end of a handle-securing plug, the anchoring portion 2a being secured in position by a transverse pin 3. The walls of the handle bushing fitting the end of the stick retain the pin 3 in position, or the pin may project from each side of the stick to engage longitudinal slots in the handle to prevent rotation of the latter. A screw-on handle for a ladies' handbag umbrella is described, the handle-securing plug having an extending threaded bolt, to which a tubular handle with a separate end cap is secured by a wide flanged nut engaging the projecting end of the bolt.</p> |
