PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin coated sand for shell mold in which the shell mold can be protected from the high temperature of the molten metal without using any releasing agent, the quality of the casting surface can be improved, and cracks of the shell mold can be prevented even when the addition of a substance with cushioning effect is reduced. SOLUTION: When preparing the resin coated sand for the shell mold which is prepared by coating a thermosetting resin and a carbon material on a surface of a refractory aggregate, the quantity of the gas generated when heating the mold formed by using this resin coated sand at 1,000 deg.C is set to be not less than 20 mL per 1 cm<3> of the mold.
