METHOD FOR IMPROVING PICTURE QUALITY OF DIGITAL COLOR IMAGE THROUGH AUTOMATIC IMAGE CLASSIFICATION

PURPOSE: A method for improving picture quality of a digital color image through automatic image classification is provided to classify images into images that require improvement of picture quality and images that do not require through histogram analysis to improve picture quality of only the image requiring it. CONSTITUTION: Images of RGB color space is transformed into HSV color space(S110). The images are automatically classified into three categories of an image that requires improvement of picture quality, a bright image and a dark image among images that do not require improvement of picture quality through histogram analysis(S120,S140). The picture quality of the bright image is improved(S150), and then an offset is applied to the image to allow the image to have a positive value. The image is filtered with different gains being applied to positive and negative regions(S170). The picture quality of the dark image is improved using histogram stretch(S160).
