PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for migrating subscribers between networks are provided to migrate the subscribers from one network to another network, regardless of the technology of either network, without requiring its subscribers to change phone numbers. CONSTITUTION: An MS(Mobile Subscriber)(103) is migrated from a network A(101) to a network B(115). Once the network B(115) is ready for traffic, connections from other networks(113) to the network A(101) are effectively transferred to a GMSC(Gateway Mobile Switching Center)(123) of the network B(115). All calls for the network A(101) and the network B(115) are directed to the GMSC(123) of the network B(115), which queries an HLR(Home Location Register)(125) of the network B(115) for routing information. When an MS(117) is provisioned and activated at this HLR(125), the call is routed within the network B(115). When the MS(103) is not provisioned or activated at the HLR(125), the call is routed to the network A(101).
