A tool holder comprises a body 10 having a seating 11 and an abutment face 12 against which a tip 14 is clamped by a concentric head 16 of a threaded pin 15. A seating member 13 is also provided. The thread of the pin 15 and the corresponding bore in the holder 10 is a slack fit so that when unclamped the pin can be moved laterally to allow a tip 14 to be removed or replaced. The pin and body have corresponding surfaces to centralize the pin 15 in its bore when tightened so that the concentric head 16 moves laterally to clamp the tip. The corresponding surfaces may comprise: a single thread 26 of the pin having its crest diameter a close fit in the root of the thread in the bore; a single thread 25 at the end of the bore having its crest diameter a close fit on the root diameter of the pin; frusto-conical surfaces 23, 24 at one or both ends of the pin and bore; and, in the case of V-shaped threads, adjustments to the crest and root radii of portions of the threads to centralize the pin as it is screwed into the body 10. |
