PURPOSE: To construct a video camera system which can be constituted of a general-purpose memory controller alone and shows superior cost efficiency by providing a margin of capacity to a general-purpose memory. CONSTITUTION: Digital image data are input to an image semiconductor memory circuit G and digital data stored in the image semiconductor memory circuit G are read by a control circuit H. The image semiconductor memory circuit G has a control signal-generating device N which outputs a control signal WAIT while a read transfer or write transfer is carried out, and a general-purpose memory interface device H which receives a control signal (e) of a general-purpose semiconductor memory. The control circuit H accesses the image semiconductor memory circuit G by the control signal (e) of the general-purpose semiconductor memory when the control signal WAIT is not output.
