A structured document distribution system comprises a data request reception unit (113) for receiving a request for a structured document from a terminal device, a page abstract (88) the summary of the structured document read from a document storage unit (111) in response to a data request, a document division unit (114) for dividing the document into units of divided document data which are contents of the elements of the structured document, and a divided document transmission unit (116) for distributing the page abstract (88) or the divided document. A web document is divided, communicated and translated into a web document usable at the terminal side thereby to realize the redundancy reduction of the communication in the translation of the structured document.
