A process for the intrinsically safe handling of 3-chloropropyne in the presence of a diluent having a b.pt. of ?-50-200 deg C (normal pressure) is characterized by maintaining the concentration of 3-chloropropyne in the liquid phase and gas phase below the deflagration concentration by control of the type and amount of diluent, and by temperature and total pressure of the system.
