The present invention relates to deletion mutants of viral RNA genome which encodes a sub-unit of viral replicase, a method for the preparation of transgenic plants resistant to viral infections by the stable integration in the genome of a host plant of said deletion mutants, a recombinant vector and the transgenic plants thus obtained.
