Extension control means for a section of a corrugated cover for reciprocating machinery parts comprises flat metal strips 15a, 15b, 17a, 17b connected to each other and to the endplates 10 of the section at 13a, 13b by means of hinges which are made of laminates of resiliently flexible thermoplastic material and serve to bias the strips towards the contracted position of the cover. The hinges may be made of nylon laminates riveted to the metal strips. When the cover section is fully extended, the metal strips move into alignment or substantial alignment on the centre-line 14. Over-dead-centre movement of the strips may be avoided by using pairs of hinges (24), (25), Fig. 5 (not shown), riveted together. Two sets of strips may be employed, one each side of the centre-line, to allow passage of a machine tool along the centreline. A corrugated cover may be built up of such sections joined together as described in Specification 895,006.</p> |
