PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient production method for a denatured dry silica dispersed solution which is useful for coating compositions such as a composition for forming a gas barrier layer, a rust preventive composition and a coating material composition. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the denatured dry silica dispersed solution from a polar solvent, dry silica and a cationic resin with halogen ions as paired anions, an ion exchange stage where a part of the halogen ions is exchanged with at least one kind of anion selected from the groups consisting of hydroxylic ions and the conjugate bases of a weak acid is included.
