PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machining method for chamfering a hole provided in the inclined surface of a workpiece, for instance, regarding a method of machining an inclined conical surface using a straight end mill at a lathe. SOLUTION: Within a limited moving range of a tool 11 and the workpiece 12 at the lathe, a C-axis, a Z-axis, an X-axis, a Y-axis and a B-axis are simultaneously controlled, with the circumferential angleθof the inclined conical surface 18 to be machined, as a variable, to put the rotating tool 11 in precession to machine the workpiece with the peripheral surface of the rotating tool 11. Since the conical surface is machined with the peripheral surface of the rotating tool 11, even if an inclination angleα, a conical angleβand the coordinates of a vertex Q of a cone to be machined change, machining can be carried out using the same tool only by changing the corresponding constant of an operation expression. A partial conical surface can also be machined, and an inclined plane, an inclined hole and the inclined conical surface can be machined using the same tool.
