PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of a jam and the like due to entanglement of a sheet in a clearance between a roller and a register front lower guide. SOLUTION: This sheet conveying device is provided with upstream conveying rollers 5 and 6 arranged in the upstream along the sheet conveying direction, skew correction rollers 7 and 8 forming a loop by abutting to the tip of the sheet conveyed by the upstream conveying rollers at its nip part for correcting a skew of the sheet, and a drive transmission means 51 and 52 transmitting drive to the respective rollers. Before the sheet rear end passes through between the upstream conveying rollers 5 and 6, drive transmission to the upstream rollers is shut off, and then, the sheet is pulled out from the upstream conveying rollers 5 and 6 to be conveyed by means of a conveying force of the skew correction rollers 7 and 8, so that the sheet is prevented from entangled in a clearance of the register front lower guide 9.
