PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify structure and reduce a cost by detecting a main scale that a main grid has a discontinuous jointing part with a single detecting part. SOLUTION: Sub-grids 22, 24, 26 formed in an index scale are slightly inclined to main grids 12A, 12B formed in a main scale 10. Consequently, an output signal that signal strength at the jointing part 10C of the main scale reduces little can be obtained by the single detecting part.
