<p>Mass contains (a) 0-95% by wt. of filler particles or fibres (b) 5-100% by wt. of an aqs. binder consisting of (i) 20-75% by wt. colloidal amorphous SiO2, with an average particle diameter of 5-500 m mu. (ii) X to Y mole of a dissolved alkaline ionic silicate, pref. Li or Na silicate, per 1000g carrier (excluding SiO2), in which 1.90 - 0 / 2(1.762+35.2 / D)-pH / 2+exp. (pH-8.13) / S X=10 3.70 0 / 2(1.762+35.2 / D)-pH / 2 + exp. (pH-7.76) / S and Y=10 (where 0 = the proportion by vol. of SiO2 in the carrier D= average particle diameter S= the molar quantity of dissolved cations excluding H+ , per 100g carrier (excluding SiO2) with the provisos that X is >=0.083, and Y =1.67). (iii) sufficient acid, pref. HCl or acetic acid, to give a pH of the carrier of 5.0 - 9.5.</p> |
