PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably impart an electric charge to developer on a developer carrier cover a long term by reducing the rise of resistance due to the energizing of a developer electrifying member. SOLUTION: This developing device comprises the developer carrier 11 coming into contact with the or adjacent to an image carrier 1 carrying an electrostatic latent image and visualizing the electrostatic latent image by carrying developer to it and the developer electrifying member 17 provided on the upstream side of a developing area in the rotating direction of the developer carrier 11. Voltage is applied so that the potential difference between the developer carrier and the developer electrifying member at a developing time is made larger than the potential difference at the time of starting electric discharge and also is made larger than the potential difference between the developer carrier and the developer electrifying member at a non-developing time, thus the increase of the resistance due to power distribution at the non- developing time is reduced while stably parting the electric charge to the developer at the developing time. |
