PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper transport apparatus capable of reducing inertia force produced by stopping a transport roll in the side shift direction, and accurately and quickly registering the side end of a paper sheet to an aimed reference position. SOLUTION: This paper transport apparatus is provided with a transport roll 1 for transporting a paper sheet, moving means 10, 11, 12, 13 for moving the transport roll 1 in the direction intersecting perpendicularly to the paper transport direction, a paper side end detecting sensor 15 capable of detecting the side end 2A of the paper sheet 2 transported by the transport roll 1 in a reference position Pa serving as the registration reference of the paper side end, a first position set at a first distance in the X1 direction from the reference position Pa and a second position at a second distance in the X2 direction from the reference position Pa and a control part 16 for controlling the moving speed of the transport roll 1 by a moving means according to the detection result of the paper side end detecting sensor 15. |
