PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical transmission type optical waveguide, by which a reflection plane at 45 deg. can easily be formed at any arbitrary position inside a core layer with high dimension accuracy/high angle accuracy and further highly efficient photocoupling characteristics are provided, and to provide a production method therefor. SOLUTION: In a vertical transmission type optical waveguide 1, by which an optical waveguide composed of a core layer 4c for transmitting light and clad layers 3 and 5 for covering that core layer 4c is formed on a substrate 2, the core layer 4c is formed of polymer material, with which a refraction factor is lowered by ultraviolet radiation, reflection plane 6 having the low refraction factor of about 45 deg. is formed within the core layer 4c by irradiating the optical axis of the core layer 4c from the upside of the optical waveguide 1 with ultraviolet laser beams in the shape of linear beams in the direction inclined at about 45 deg., and signal light to be made incident to that reflection plane 6 is almost vertically reflected. |
