PURPOSE: An external device capable of a communication in a 8-wire or 4-wire Ethernet system using 2 wires is provided to perform a 4-wire or 8-wire data communication performed between Ethernet devices such as a LAN card or a switching hub as a 2-wire data communication. CONSTITUTION: The first and second mediation control devices(100,200) mediates between a LAN card(10) and a switching hub(20). Each of the first and second mediation control devices(100,200) has the first physical layer interfaces(140,240) connected to the LAN card(10) and the switching hub(20) through a UTP(Unshielded Twisted Pair) cable(30) and the second physical layer interfaces(120,220) connected to a pair of signal lines(310,320). Each of the first and second mediation control devices(100,200) has MII(Media Independent Interface) control logics(160,260) for being allocated between the first and second physical layer interfaces(140,120)(240,220) and setting a link mode, a data transmission and reception speed, and a duplex mode as to the first and second physical layer interfaces(120,220) so that it is possible to perform a data communication through a pair of signal lines(310,320). Each of the first and second mediation control devices(100,200) has mediation control logics(180,280) for being allocated between the first and second physical layer interfaces(140,120)(240,220), controlling the transmission and reception of data, and preventing the impact of data.
