PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture display device of the wide angle of view which corrects chromatic aberration by a diffraction optical device and has several aberration corrected well by arranging a positive lens on the side of the emission pupil of an aberration prism. SOLUTION: In a picture display device provided with a picture display element 3 and an observation optical system for projecting its display picture on the eye ball of an observer, the observation optical system having at least three surfaces forms a space filled with a vehicle of a refractive index >=1.3, consists at least an incident surface 13, a positive power inner reflection surface 12 and an emission surface and is provided with the aberration prism 10 having at least reflection surface consisting of rotating asymmetric surface. The optical element 20 of positive power is arranged between the surface 11 of the prism 10 and the exit pupil 1 of the observation optical system, and a diffraction optical surface 4 for correcting color aberration is provided on one surface in the optical path of the observation optical system in the picture display device.
