PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a defect caused by viscous material at the primary stage of the manufacture of an optical fiber cable. SOLUTION: In the apparatus, by which an optical fiber is inserted into a metallic pipe and the viscous material is charged into a gap between the optical fiber and the metallic pipe to manufacture the optical fiber cable, a valve 11 is provided at a downstream side of a pump 10 in a viscous material supply route for guiding the viscous material into the metallic pipe from a tank for viscous matter 9. Before starting the manufacture of the optical fiber cable, pre-pressurizing operation of the viscous material for increasing the pressure of the viscous material in a viscous material supply tube 8 between the pump 10 and the valve 11 is performed by starting driving of the pump 10 in the state of closing the valve 11, and the valve 11 is opened to start the manufacture of the optical fiber cable. Since the viscous material is supplied to the inside of the metallic pipe with nearly a set flow rate just after starting of manufacture, a defect caused by the absence or the shortage of the viscous material is nearly prevented.
