PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent temperature rise in a sheet feed magazine. SOLUTION: A sheet feed magazine 26 for housing color thermal recording sheets 15 has high hermetic seal properties and light shielding function. At the time of recording of an image, a color thermal recording sheet 15 is drawn out from the sheet feed magazine 26 by the length of an image being recorded. A platen roller 37 and a thermal head 36, a heat sink 31 and an opposite roller 32 hold the color thermal recording sheet 15, respectively. The color thermal recording sheet 15 is carried in the 'rewinding direction' and rewound in a housing unit. A heating element array 36a is heated during carriage depending on print data and thermal recording is performed. Heat stored in the color thermal recording sheet 15 is dissipated through the heat sink 31. Since the color thermal recording sheet 15 has substantially normal temperature, it does not raise temperature in the sheet feed magazine 26.
