PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold and a method for producing a casting with which strain in the casting and twisting and warping, etc., of a shape can be reduced in casting. SOLUTION: A gap part 2 in the mold for producing the casting by pouring molten metal is formed at the center part of the mold 1. A gap part 3 for excess margin, communicating with the gap part 2 in the mold is formed around the gap part 2 in the mold toward the depth direction. The molten metal poured into the gap part 3 for excess margin, is formed as the excess margin in the casting.
